Frequently Asked Questions
ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) is a risk classification scheme defined in ISO 26262. It ranges from QM (Quality Management only, no specific safety requirements) through ASIL A, B, C, to ASIL D (highest safety requirements). Safety requirements are defined based on ASIL level.
ISO 26262 is not legally mandatory, but major OEMs (BMW, Volkswagen, Toyota, etc.) require it for safety-relevant electronic components in their supply chains. For EV and ADAS suppliers, it is effectively mandatory for market access.
